Pier 1 Imports on the way to MJ

Commercial Realty Services broke ground on a multi-million dollar project in south Mt. Juliet Wednesday morning.

Construction of Pier 1 Imports is slated to begin this week next to Region's Bank, across from Providence Marketplace.

"We are excited to get this project underway and bring a great tenant to the Mt. Juliet market where the community is eager for new home furnishing options," said CRS's development manager Will Tyner.

Tyner was joined by CRS founder Kenneth Powers at the groundbreaking that drew local business owners and Mt. Juliet Mayor Ed Hagerty. Pier 1 Imports will be an anchor of the Providence West Development, which is a 40-acre mixed-use development with retail centers, medical offices, restaurants and more.

In a release issued at the groundbreaking, Powers said this project has a projected total capital investment of $3.25 million and it is the tenth CRS development project in the Providence area.

"We continue to believe Mt. Juliet is a great market to invest in and we fully expect this to be another successful project," said Powers.

Tyner said the store will be open mid-summer. It will be 9,770 square feet with an additional 3,221 square feet up for lease. According to the release, Pier 1 Imports is the original global importer of decorative home furnishings and gifts and they offer a broad assortment of items and styles.

"We are delighted to be bringing a new Pier 1 Imports store location to the Providence West shopping center,"  Pier 1 Imports CEO Alex Smith said in the release. "We look forward to sharing our unique merchandise and one-of-a-kind store experience to the residents of Mt. Juliet and the surrounding communities."

Tyner said Robert S. Biscan & Company will be the project's general contractor. Nashville based MJM Architects and Civil Site Design Group will handle the design and engineering.
